OKM is run by Andy Spate AM, a well-recognised consultant. His professional career spans more than 50 years as research scientist in CSIRO, as a manager of caves and karst in the NSW National Parks and Wildlife service and as a consultant with his own business.
Andy has extensive experience in Australia and internationally in the fields of cave and karst research and management, natural resource inventory, landscape rehabilitation, forest firefighting and tourism planning, management, and interpretation. More recently he has been involved in World Heritage and UNESCO Global Geoparks.
Optimal Karst Management can help with the World Heritage Area and UNESCO Geoparks assessment processes, with producing effective management plans for karst areas, environmental impact statements, fire rehabilitation in national parks and other sensitive areas, assessments of derelict mine sites and development of interpretive material for karst tourism ventures.
